The reproductive system is a collection of internal and external sex organs which work together for the purpose of sexual reproduction. The development of these reproductive organs begins at an early stage in the embryo. There is a close link throughout with the development of the urinary system . The Gonads Indifferent Stage In the first stage of gonadal development, it is impossible to distinguish between the male and female gonad. Thus, it is known as the indifferent stage . Development of the Central Nervous System

Following fertilisation, the nervous system begins to form in the 3 rd week of development. It continues after birth and for many years into the future. Structurally, the nervous system is divided into two parts: Central nervous system – consists of the brain and the spinal cord. Peripheral nervous system – consists of cranial and spinal nerves, ganglia, plexuses, and sensory receptors. In this article, we will outline the stages involved in the development of the central nervous system . Early Stages At the end of week two, a structure called the primitive streak appears as a groove in the epiblast layer of the bilaminar disk. Cells within the epiblast migrate downward through the primitive streak, giving rise to three layers from the initial two. The anatomical terms of location are vital to understanding and using anatomy. They help to avoid any ambiguity that can arise when describing the location of structures. In this article, we shall look at the basic anatomical terms of location, and examples of their use within anatomy. Note: There are some anatomical terms that are specifically used in embryology. Medial and Lateral Imagine a line in the sagittal plane, splitting the right and left halves evenly. This is the midline. Medial means towards the midline, l ateral means away from the midline. Examples: The eye is lateral to the nose. The nose is medial to the ears. The brachial artery lies medial to the biceps tendon.
